0

Kabusa Oriental Choir’s latest single, Soso, is a powerful blend of Afrobeats, Afro-pop, and Afro-fusion, presented through a deeply emotional choral perspective. This Nigerian-based choir, known for their viral choir covers and original compositions, taps into a universal theme: pain and the desire to break free from its hold. With Soso, they take listeners on an emotional journey through haunting melodies and layered harmonies, reminiscent of tribal and Afro house influences.

The song's strength lies in its message—everyone can relate to pain, and Kabusa Oriental Choir translates this into a moving and addictive composition. The choral arrangement adds depth, transforming the track from a typical Afrobeats anthem into something more ethereal and reflective. By focusing on the human experience of struggle, Soso connects with listeners on a personal level, making them feel seen and heard.

Kabusa Oriental Choir has a distinct ability to mix popular African rhythms with a choral approach that feels both fresh and timeless. The lush vocal layers in Soso carry an almost spiritual weight, with the harmonies delivering the song’s message in a way that resonates deeply with the soul. This ability to fuse traditional choral arrangements with modern Afro-pop rhythms creates a unique sound that sets the group apart in today’s vibrant Afro-fusion scene.

About the Choir

The Kabusa Oriental Choir, directed by Austin Chinemezu Nwamara, has become a household name since their viral start in 2019 with a mashup cover of Kizz Daniel's Yeba and DJ Spinall’s Baba. Since then, they've expanded their repertoire to include original songs that carry social messages, such as The Corona Song, which they released at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Their Valentine’s Day hit, Valentine is Coming, garnered international attention, especially in the UK, where it was featured on BBC 1XTRA RADIO.

In August 2020, Kabusa Oriental Choir released their debut album, Liturgy, a project that showcased their unique sound. Their music seamlessly blends choral traditions with Afro-pop, reflecting the richness of African musical heritage. With Soso, they continue this tradition, offering a track that is as relatable as it is uplifting.

For fans of Afro-pop, tribal house, and those looking for music that speaks to shared human experiences, Soso is a must-listen. The song’s choral framework and emotional depth distinguish it as a standout track in the Afro-fusion genre.
